Duke of York. Trench. Telford
Christmas came early for me this year! Just by chance my son and I yesterday lunchtime called in at the DUKE OF YORK. on the Trench Road, Trench, Telford. Having selected a quiet area of the bar at which to sit, we were immediately made welcome by one of the proprietors.
I ordered a pint of ‘Bank’s Bitter’ and my son a pint of ‘Carlsberg‘. Having given the barman a £10.00 note I was given £6.45 change. Thinking there had been a mistake and that I had been under charged, I asked if the change given to me was correct.
My change turned to be spot on because a pint of ‘Bank’s Bitter’ was priced at £1.75 and the ‘Carlsberg‘ at £1.80. My son Mark commented on the fact that this was almost £2.00 cheaper than we were normally charged at other drinking holes for the same beer.
It was then that I noticed an old friend of mine ‘Queenie’ (that’s not his real name, it’s just that people call him that because he was once a drag-artist in London, whilst serving in the Coldstream Guards.)
As we strolled over to say hello to him, it was then I noticed how clean and well laid out the establishment was.
Queenie told me he had made the pub his local now, simply because the prices were the cheapest around, and the beer of excellent quality.
He went on to add that the pub was family run and friendly, and should I like authentic Indian food freshly made to order, eat in or take-away then this was where to get it. What’s more there’s a free pint of any beer with any food order over £15.00.
With empty glasses, Mark and I returned to the bar to order another pint, ‘his round’. It was then that the barman introduced himself and told us his name was Pal, and offered us a food menu to study.
We are so impressed with the menu that we have decided to publish it. Should you wish to take a look at it, then click here
The Duke Of York is a credit to Shropshire, and on my next afternoon out I shall return. At those prices I’d save a fortune. ”Santa I’m beginning to believe in you”
